10/23 UPDATE: The rail strike in France has disrupted the travel of David Lauer, and he will not be performing for this concert. While we are disappointed at this development, we have a wonderful program of French and German music still planned. Susan B. Anthony will perform as scheduled; an aria from J. S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, which the Kalamazoo Symphony is presenting in its entirety later in the season. She will also perform both the Schubert and Bach-Gounod Ave Maria and some Faure songs.

Organist Eric Strand will cover the “keys” part of the program, performing with Susan and also presenting solo works for organ by Clérambault, Bach, and Duruflé, and a piece for medieval organ by Carson Cooman. MFSM Executive Director Elizabeth Start, cellist, will perform Faure’s Elegy and Sicilienne with Strand.

Visiting organist David Lauer will perform an afternoon program, including selections with special guest soprano Susan B. Anthony.

David Lauer is the organist at Lectoure Cathedral in Gers, France. Prior to that appointment, he studied in Paris, performing at all of the great Parisian churches. His performances go beyond the traditional, often collaborating with other instrumentalists such as saxophonist Fabien Chouraki and trumpet player Gerard Siffert.

No stranger to area audiences, special guest soprano Susan B. Anthony will join Lauer for a few selections.
